Gamma-ray Burst 980109

The Gamma-Ray Burst (BATSE trigger No. 6564, 2175 cts/s peak intensity) was detected by BATSE and BeppoSAX WFC on 1998 January 9.05024 UT. With the BeppoSAX WFC the location could be deduced to a 10 arcmin error circle centered at R.A. = 0h25m56s, Decl. = -63o01'.4 degrees (2000.0).
No follow-up observation with the BeppoSAX NFI instruments has been performed due to the large error radius. Unfortunately, the GRB location is not reachable for ROSAT due to Sun angle constraints. An ASCA observation might be possible if the ASCA Sun angle constraint will be violated by about 1-2 degrees. (All information courtesy of the instrument teams.)
