Postdoctoral Position in Astrochemistry and Star/Planet Formation

Job offer from November 16, 2017

The Center for Astrochemical Studies (CAS) at the Max Planck Institute for Extraterrestrial Physics (MPE) in Garching (near Munich), Germany, invites applications for a Postdoctoral position in laboratory astrochemistry or observational/theoretical star and planet formation.

The project

The overall aim of the project is to study the chemical and physical evolution of star- and planet-forming regions, from the parent clouds to protoplanetary disks, with links to our Solar System. This is done by comparing high sensitivity observations of molecular lines, ice features and dust continuum with state-of-the-art dynamical/chemical models, supported by the experimental work carried out in the CAS group.

Researchers with experience in laboratory astrophysics or theory/observations of star- and planet-forming regions are encouraged to apply.

We offer

The MPE is one of the major German astrophysics research institutes with broad research interests ranging from instrumentation to theory. It is part of an international research center situated in Garching near Munich, on a campus shared with the MPI for Astrophysics, ESO, and several other institutes and university departments. Munich is an attractive international city close to the Bavarian Alps.

The flexible starting date could be as early as Spring 2018, for 2 years guaranteed with the possibility of extension to up to five years and further career within MPE. Applicants should have a PhD in astronomy or related field before starting. The post comes with a generous travel allowance.

Please send a letter of application, a brief description of research interests, a curriculum vitae including bibliography, and three letters of reference by December 15th, 2017 to:

Paola Caselli - .

Later applications may also be considered in case the post is not filled until January 15th 2018. The Max-Planck Society is an equal opportunity employer, yet specifically aims to increase the number of female employees.

The Max-Planck Society is an equal opportunity employer and women and minorities are encouraged to apply.
