IPELS'99: Social Program


Sunday (8 Aug):

Reception , 18:00 - 19:30

Tuesday (10 Aug):

Visit to Munich for Accompanying Persons. Mrs. Dina Haerendel offers to guide the group through Downtown Munich with visits to the famous Viktualienmarkt, the Rokoko Cuvillies Theater (no performance !), an exhibition of the painters of the Blaue Reiter (Kandinsky and others), and other places of choice. Transportation is free. Lunch in a traditional Bavarian restaurant to be paid by the participants. Pre-registration asap (email) is mandatory.

Wednesday (11 Aug):

Departure from Kreuth at 10 a.m. for viewing of the Solar Eclipse (see below) from Stiftskirche Baumburg (a beautiful baroque church at Altenmarkt/Alz, NE of Chiemsee (see red square on the eclipse map below);
lunch in a rustic restaurant at Amerang (very modest costs);
visit of the Tokamak (ASDEX-Upgrade) and Stellerator (Wendelstein 7 AS) of IPP Garching, and/or visit of our institute (MPE).
After lunch there will be a choice of returning directly to Kreuth instead of visiting IPP and MPE. Dinner at Kreuth.

Thursday (12 Aug):

Mrs. Haerendel offers an afternoon visit to Innsbruck for accompanying persons. Pre-registration mandatory. No charge.

After dinner (approx. 20:30) there will be a 1-hour concert with Bavarian folk music and light classics (Mozart, Schubert) at Hotel zur Post, given by the Ruperti Quartett of Berchtesgaden.

Friday (13 Aug):

Boat tour on the nearby lake Tegernsee. Departure 14:30 from the landing at Rottach-Egern (Bachmair) and return to the same place at 16:45 with a 1-hour stop at a beer garden (Bräustueberl at Tegernsee). Transport from and back to Hotel zur Post will have to be organized with private cars, public bus etc. (5 km only).

In the evening (19:30): Farewell Banquet, no charge for full registrants.

Otherwise, there should be opportunity for light mountain hikes during the afternoon breaks. Maps and descriptions will be available at the hotel.

Saturday (14 Aug): Departure

All participants are strongly urged to stay until Saturday morning, since the Friday evening session is a central part of the program and the Farewell Dinner will be the opportunity to wrap up and to make plans for the future.
