To prepare for the commisioning, performance verification and
observing the SPIFFI science-team was formed. A first meeting is planned
in summer 2000. Members of the SPIFFI science-team are:
- Roland Bacon (alternate Eric Emsellem)
- Ralf Bender
- Olivier Le Fevre (alternate Laurence Tresse)
- James Graham
- Alberto Franchescini
- Ortwin Gerhard
- Guy Monnet
- Tim De Zeeuw
As an example of future SPIFFI observations we present a simulation of
black hole detection in an S0 galaxy at a distance of 10 Mpc (see also
§5.2.5 in
STC.210.ps.gz).
In this simulation two models are presented: with and without the addition of
a central dark mass. Error bars are derived from Monte Carlo modelling. At
that spatial resolution the distinction between the two models is clear. The
remaining ambiguity comes from the freedom in the details of the dynamical
state (e.g. anisotropy). This can only be addressed using the unique
two-dimensional coverage provided by SPIFFI.
