Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope
(formerly Gamma-ray Large Area Space Telescope "GLAST")
The Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope (Fermi) is a new high-energy
Gamma-ray mission to identify and study Nature's
highest energy particle accelerators. Fermi is designed to
operate in the energy range from 10 keV to 300 GeV. Fermi will
have a factor of more than 30 improvement in sensitivity over the
Energetic Gamma Ray Experiment Telescope (EGRET) onboard the
Compton Gamma Ray Observatory (CGRO).
In addition to the Gamma-ray detectors, a Gamma-ray burst monitor is part
of the satellite. This burst monitor is built in close cooperation with
MPE.
