Celebrating 15 years of precision astronomy in the Galactic Center - Hot
topics and observational challenges
Workshop at Schloss Ringberg (Ringberg Castle), Bavaria, Germany
June 17 - 23, 2007
In 1992, the first observations of a star in a close orbit around the
supermassive black hole at the Galactic Center were obtained. Today we
know that this star, S2, has an orbital period of 15 years, so in 2007 we can
celebrate the first completely observed revolution of S2.
This "anniversary" is the motive for organizing this workshop. The main focus of the conference will be on stellar dynamics in the Galactic Center. Additionally, a full day will be dedicated to the topic of Sagittarius A*.
Ringberg Castle provides an excellent conference facility for a
relatively small number of participants, allowing for intense
discussions and fruitful exchange of ideas. The location, in the
foothills of the Bavarian Alps and overlooking the Tegernsee, is beautiful
and peaceful.
For more details please have a look at the castle webpage. If you have any questions or comments, please contact the LOC via .
