K M O S 1

General Information

KMOS1 will be an instrument designed by a German-UK consortium of astronomical institutes in reply to ESO's call for proposals for the second generation of VLT instrumentations.

KMOS1 will provide a '1-2.4 mu-m Cryogenic Multi-object Spectrometer' as requested by ESO. It will provide several ten integral-field units (IFU) which will feed cryogenic spectrographs to measure the spectrum of astronomical objects in the J, H, and K bands of atmospheric transmission at medium resolution (a few thousands).
