The hard X-ray experiment MIR-HEXE launched as part of the Kvant module in 1987 is still operated in 1997. Many results on X-ray binaries and high energy transients were obtained in collaboration with the Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IAAT) at the University of Tübingen and the Space Research Institute (IKI) of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Moskow. A highlight was the discovery of comptonized X-rays from SN 1987A in summer 1987.
