Data Storage and Transmission

Up to 700 Mbits of data (scientific, attitude, and housekeeping data from both the XRT and WFC) can be stored on the two on board tape recorders,  and transmitted to the ground during ground station contacts.  All necessary telecommands  for S/C operations for one day must be loaded during the five or six consecutive GSOC contact orbits. At any given time, at most tex2html_wrap_inline13445 pointing positions can be stored by the system. Thus a large number of very short duration observations cannot be performed.
