X-ray Telescope (XRT)

     

The X-ray telescope (XRT) on ROSAT consists of the following subsystems:

  • the X-ray mirror assembly (XMA)
  • a magnetic deflector
  • two South Atlantic Anomaly detectors (SAADs)
  • a focal plane turret containing
    • two position-sensitive proportional counters (PSPCs) and associated filter wheel
    • a high-resolution imager (HRI)
A schematic view of the XRT and its various subsystems is shown in Fig. 2.1.
