The Focal Instrumentation of ROSATThe focal instrumentation of ROSAT without the cover cylinder. The position-sensitive proportional counter (PSPC) is seen in the foreground. Since the launch of ROSAT, it has transmitted coloured X-ray images from the universe unique in quality and meaningfulness. The working gas for the PSPC was stored in the two lateral yellow tanks and was exhausted at the end of 1993. Since then only the high-resolution imager (HRI) has been used and provided sharp black and white X-ray plates. gzipped PostScript version gzipped 300 dpi tif version ROSAT (Röntgensatellit) 1993 Images from the X-ray sky with the ROSAT telescope · All rights reserved: © Max-Planck-Institut für extraterrestrische Physik, Postfach 1603, 85740 Garching, Germany.
