Supernova Remnant G 272.2-3.2The supernova remnant G 272.2-3.2 was discovered in 1990 during the ROSAT All-Sky Survey. It attracted attention by its relative hard X-ray emission pointing to temperatures between 7 and 10 million degrees, so that this object is relatively young (about 2000 years). The image was extracted from a six hour observation. The overlayed optical exposure shows a filament which was formed during the collision of the shock wave with an interstellar cloud. gzipped high-resolution tif image ROSAT (Röntgensatellit) 1996 Images from the X-ray sky with the ROSAT telescope · All rights reserved: © Max-Planck-Institut für extraterrestrische Physik, Postfach 1603, 85740 Garching, Germany.
