X-ray Scattering Halo of Scorpius X-1The X-ray source Scorpius X-1 is much too bright to be observed by ROSAT. Therefore even after the completion of the sky survey in February 1997, a "white" spot on the X-ray sky map remained. Only the halo surrounding the X-ray source can partly be seen. This halo is formed by radiation reaching us only after scattering on interstellar dust. The analysis of scattering halos uncovers the nature and distribution of the interstellar dust.
