X-ray image of the supernova remnant N 132D

X-ray image of the supernova remnant N 132D, which belongs to the most interesting supernova remnants in the Great Magellanic Cloud. N 132D is about 100 light years across and 2500 to 3000 years old. The ROSAT-HRI image shows like in the optical light a complex structure which can be described by two superimposed rings. For this extreme long exposure (total recording time of 150 000 seconds) about 50 single images were added after aligning them with one other by using the well known position of a 4 arcminute distant star.
