Valid for XMMSAS version 5.3.0
There are two ways to get a quick overview about an XMM observation: a) through
the XMM-Newton Observation Log browser page at VILSPA or b) running the XMMSAS
task
odfbrowser over your own ODF:
- The XMM-Newton Observation log browser:
The Webpage at VILSPA provides an
XMM-Newton Observation Log Browser Page where you can search all performed
observations. You can search for the Revolution/orbit number, target name and
coordinates, etc. The Webpage will give you information on the instruments used
and the observing times.
- The XMMSAS Task odfbrowser:
The new XMMSAS version 5.3.0. provides a new task named
odfbrowser that is an interactive graphical viewer of and
XMM observation. It allows you to view the observations, but also to process the
observation interactively. Please make sure that before you start the task
odfbrowser, that you have created a summary file ..SUM.SAS in you ODF
directory and that you have also created an ccf.cif files, if you wish to
run the metatasks to create eventfiles form the ODF via the interactive
odfbrowser task. Please have a look at
System Setup Page.
Below displays an example of an observation of
LBQS 2212-1759 from orbit 355:
odfbrowser display
|
- Display of the XMM observation of LBQS 2212-1759 from orbit 355 of
observation 0106660501
- The Display shows the basic information about the observation, and
displays graphically the length of the observations. When you move the mouse
over one of the observations, it displays also information, e.g. what filter
has been used.
- In the upper left corber of the odfbrowser display are the keys that
control the processing of the ODF data. When you click on those M, R, P, and O,
keys it will pop-up an new display that allows you to controll the processing
in more details.
