Trajectory Just in case my name isn't unique enough (or you really want to know): I started out on Jan. 10th, 1972, in Haifa, Israel. Went to this school in Haifa, then the MIS in Munich, Germany, and finally the Luitpold Gymnasium (or here), also in Munich.
I studied physics from 1991 on at the LMU. I obtained a Ph.D. in astronomy at the Universitäts-Sternwarte in 2002. My thesis was on galaxy evolution in the MUNICS survey. I was a post-doc at the University of Texas at Austin Department of Astronomy and McDonald Observatory from 2002 to 2006, partly on a von Humboldt fellowship (2002-2004). Currently I'm a research scientist at MPE.
Research Galaxy formation and evolution; deep photometric and spectroscopic surveys (MUNICS, FDF); Pan-STARRS; luminosity function and mass function of galaxies; stellar populations in galaxies; structure of galactic disks and bulges; observational cosmology (The HET Dark Energy Experiment - HETDEX and HETDEX.org); software for data processing.
Data from my papers in electronic form is available here.
Software projects YODA: Yet another Object Detection Application, a package for object detection, photometry and classification.

LTL, the Little Template Library, together with Claus A. Gössl, and Jan Snigula. An expression templates based C++ library for array processing, image processing, FITS and ASCII I/O, and linear algebra (scientific computing, in short).

Leisure Anything that catches my interest and sparks my curiosity, really. Music. Literature. Science. Cooking. And - after a long break - photography again.
