Phd Students

Mohit Tanga
PhD student

PhD thesis investigating the affect of a turbulent hot ISM on the observed X-ray and optical afterglow spectra, and studying the spatically resolved spectral properties of nearby GRB host galaxies observed with MUSE and VIMOS.

Philip Wiseman
PhD student

PhD thesis investigating the gas and dust attenuation properties of the host galaxy intervening material. In particular studying the relation between dust extinction Av, as measured from the broad band GROND-XRT spectral energy distribution, and dust depletion, as derived from the relative abundances or singly ionised metals observed in absorption in Xshooter GRB afterglow spectra.

jan Bolmer
PhD student

PhD thesis is 60% funded by ESO and will involve the use of GROND imaging data and X-shooter spectra of GRB afterglows to study the composition of dust within high-z galaxies, and its relation with other galaxy properties, such as metallicity and SFR.
