The mechanical development and construction department supports the experimental scientific fields of the Institute in the development and design of the scientific instruments.
Our responsibilities do not only include the development of the concept and detailed design of astronomical instruments with the help of advanced 2D/3D CAD systems and FEE methods. We also provide systems engineering in all development phases of the project, take over tasks such as the product safety and quality management and manage internal and external production.
In close connection with our own workshops and testing facilities, as well as with partners in the aviation and aerospace industry, our tasks include integration, verification and testing, as well as on-site commissioning of the experiments, e.g. at the satellite integration or the large telescopes.
An in-house test lab is available for vibration testing and thermal / vacuum tests.
