Registration

The registration fee of EUR 200.00 is payable in cash at the opening buffet at Ringberg on Sunday evening. We cannot take payment by credit cards, so participants should come to Ringberg with sufficient amounts of Euros to cover this fee.  There are international ATMs at the Munich airport, throughout central Munich, and in Tegernsee and Rottach-Egern.

Shuttle Services

  • Transfer on 28 October
We have hired a bus to take participants from Munich Airport to Castle Ringberg on Sunday, 28 October, leaving at 03.00 PM.

The meeting point for participants who would like to take the bus is at Airbraeu at 2.45pm.
    Airbraeu: https://www.munich-airport.de/en/micro/airbraeu/index.jsp
LOC members will wait for you there and show you the way to the bus. They will be carrying  signs indicating the Max Planck Institute so that you can easily identify them.
If you have some extra time before the bus leaves, there is a large shopping center, many restaurants, ATM machines, showers, etc. available at the airport.  You can check the airport webpage for more information:
    http://www.munich-airport.de/en/consumer/aufenthalt_trans/index.jsp

For participants arriving after that, it will be necessary to take the train and/or a taxi to Ringberg from the Munich area.
We have a special rate with a taxi company in the vicinity of Ringberg Castle of EUR 145.00 per car (which can take up to 4 people) from Munich airport to Ringberg. Please send us an email if you would like to order one of these taxis.

The instructions on how to catch a train, complete with train schedules, can be found at:

  • Transfer on November 03
The bus will return participants to Munich airport on Saturday, November 3, leaving after breakfast at around 8:45 AM, and arriving at the airport about 1.5 hours later, depending on traffic.

Workshop Venue

The venue for the workshop is Schloss Ringberg (Ringberg Castle), a turn of the century castle located in the foothills of the Bavarian Alps, and overlooking the Tegernsee. Located about 70 km south of Munich, the Tegernsee is a beautiful lake surrounded by mountains and small resort villages. The peaceful location, meeting schedule, and attendance limit of 65 set by the capacity of the venue are all conducive to an informal workshop atmosphere offering many opportunities for stimulating discussion.
Check-in at Schloss Ringberg on Sunday, October 28, will be possible from 16h00 onwards.

Travel to Munich Area and Ringberg

  • By Air:
The Munich Franz-Josef Strauss Airport (MUC) lies approximately 30 km and 100 km north of Munich and Ringberg, respectively. Most major carriers offer service to Munich, with an ever increasing number of direct flights. Those participants arriving on Sunday, October 28, before mid-afternoon will be met at the airport by one of the LOC members and taken to the conference bus (see below).

  • By Train:
Munich Central Station (Hauptbahnhof) can be reached from anywhere within Europe. From the station, there are good public transporation connections to all of Munich, as well as to the area around Schloss Ringberg. You may also catch the conference bus at the airport on Sunday by taking the S-Bahn line "S8" from the central train station to the airport if you wish.

  • By Car:
Schloss Ringberg is located about 70 km south-east of Munich. All major car rental companies have branches at the Munich Airport. There is ample parking space at the castle, and at the nearby hotels.

  • Conference Bus:
We will hire a bus to take participants from Munich Airport to Ringberg Castle on Sunday 28 October, leaving the airport in the mid-afternoon. The bus will return participants to the airport on Saturday 3 November, leaving Ringberg promptly after breakfast. Please also provide your arrival/departure times and flight numbers even if incommensurate with the planned bus schedule, as this will help us checking the possibility of alternative pickups. Final bus departure times and locations will be given in the final announcement.

  • Further Information:
If not using the conference bus, detailed instructions how to get to Schloss Ringberg can be found on the castle's travel web page. Please note that check-in at Schloss Ringberg on Sunday is possible from 16h00 onwards.

Meals and Lodging

The LOC will pay for lodging and meals of all participants for the duration of the workshop. Breakfast will be provided either at Ringberg Castle or at the hotel.  Lunch and dinner will be provided for all participants at Ringberg Castle.
Vegetarian meals and other special dietary requests are happily accommodated provided advance notice is given. If you have not already indicated your special requests on the registration form, please send us a short email message soon.

Daily transportation from the hotel Bachmair Alpina (the conference hotel) to the castle (about a 10-15 minute drive) will be provided by Taxi Kaufmann (prepaid by the LOC) in the morning in time for the first session, and back to the hotel after dinner at 8:30 and 10:30 PM.  The LOC will have the number of the taxi company available at Ringberg for those who need transportation outside of these times.  Extra trips will have to be paid by the participants, however (cost ~EUR 15.00 each way).
